Hi i am from Paris love boxing and appreciate your blog i spend a part of this night on it. Now i am just posting this to ask why there is not articles on old fights ? Or old boxers ezzard charles joe walcott ??

Wow thank you! Are you asking me why is there not any articles of old fights that I have posted? Or just in general?

If you’re wondering why I haven’t posted on older fights it’s simply because I have a lot more to learn about fighters of that era. I’m not sure what I could really write about other than the difference between the fighters of today and the fighters of Ezzard Charles and Joe Walcott’s era.

If you’re speaking just in general, I think the main reason why there aren’t as many articles on old fighters is because I don’t think there is much of a demand to hear about them. But they’re definitely are some articles out there about them if you do your research.

Hey ashley what are your thoughts and prediction on saul vs trout and also on mayweather vs guererro I know it's early cause he only had one fight but what did you think about zhou shimings performance?

Honestly i was rooting for Trout, just because I like big upsets lol. But I’m not surprised at the outcome. I do think the fight was closer in the cards than the judges saw it but I do agree that he lost. I’m not very good at predictions but I don’t think Guererro will last past the 6th round. But once again, I’m secretly rooting for an upset because that’s just how I roll. haha

As long as the fight is worth watching, It doesn’t matter to me who wins. Great fights > great fighters in my opinion.

49 years ago today on February 25th, 1964, 22 year old Cassius Clay defeats Sonny Liston to win the world heavyweight title.

Clay comes out to meet Liston and Liston starts to retreat,
if Liston goes back an inch farther he’ll end up in a ringside seat.
Clay swings with his left, Clay swings with his right,
Look at young Cassius carry the fight
Liston keeps backing, but there’s not enough room,
It’s a matter of time till Clay lowers the boom.
Now Clay lands with a right,
What a beautiful swing, and the punch raises the Bear clean out of the ring.
Liston is still rising and the ref wears a frown,
For he can’t start counting till Sonny goes down.
Now Liston is disappearing from view,
The crowd is going frantic,
But radar stations have picked him up,
Somewhere over the Atlantic.

I did watch the Broner vs. Rees fight. I was actually a little surprised by the effort of Gavin Rees. I wasn’t really expecting him to put up as much of a fight as he did but, all-in-all the fight ended just like I expected. Now Broner can go up to 140.

It seems like 2013 is getting off to a good start. I’m actually excited to see Alvarez vs Trout. And Donaire vs. Rigondeaux should be another interesting one as well!

I've been following you for awhile and I gotta say this has to be one of my favorite blogs. Keep up the great work. Quick question, any boxing books you'd recommend?

Thank you so much! Sorry if I’m writing this back to you late. I’ve been on hiatus for a while. One of my favorite boxing books to read is “At The Fights: American Writers on Boxing” by George Kimball and John Schulian. It’s pretty much has a collection of stories written by different boxing writers on guys like Roberto Duran, Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson, Floyd Patterson, ect. It’s a great in-depth read. There is also “The Ultimate Book of Boxing Lists” by Bert Sugar and Teddy Atlas. Although I haven’t read that one, I would assume it’s legitimate enough coming from two prominent figures in the boxing world. It seems like it would be an interesting read.

Floyd Mayweather Makes Ground-Breaking Deal With Showtime

A lot of boxing fans may have heard about Floyd Mayweather’s new deal with Showtime. Mayweather made a PPV deal with Showtime Networks Inc. and parent company CBS Corporation to promote Mayweather’s events on the CBS television network and via the corporations other expansive media platforms. This deal will enable Mayweather will enable him to fight up to 6 times over a 30 month period. The first of these fights will take place on May 4th against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero.

This comes as a major loss for HBO. According to Forbes, Mayweather’s nine previous HBO PPV events generated 9.6 million buys and $543 million in television revenue.

Mayweather is likely looking at a guarantee of around $200 million for the six-fight deal. Pay-per-view revenues will push that total past $250 million. How much past $250 million depends on the quality and marketability of his opponents, as well as Mayweather staying undefeated.

From what I have heard from a few boxing fans (particularly Mayweather fans) are a little upset that he left HBO. They wanted to see HBO 24/7, Face Off and of course the commentating gang: Jim Lampley, Max Kellerman, Roy Jones Jr., Harold Letterman and Bob Papa. Personally, it doesn’t matter at all to me. I’ve seen enough of Mayweather’s 24/7 to understand what he’s like during training. And who knows? Maybe this will be Showtime’s chance to really bring some other boxing-related segments to the newtwork.
